According to Zeolife (2008) in the olden days before the use of information communication and technology (ICT) bankers were dissatisfied with their job, it seems like the banking industry was becoming Nigeria’s most frustrating sector. Everyday, one comes in contact with bankers who are full or woes about their job for example, every paying cushier have to:
Also lack of effeteness in term of customer service and service delivery in such that some of the bankers get tired before the end of the closing hour and this eventually makes the work slower everyday and people will be discourage of paying money into the bank. Fund transfer could not be made possible before the use of ICT, even deposit and withdraw were very slow because there was no counting machine so the bankers make use of their hand to count millions of naira, by so doing this affect the banking sector and also delay people that needs money urgently. There was also lack of security then and also a lot of congestion, some people will have to devote all their time in the bank for a whole day due to a lot of people in the bank. The phrase ICT had been used by academic researchers since the 1980s but it became popular after it was used in a report to the UK government by Denis Stevenson in (2007) and in the revised national curriculum for England, wale and Northern Ireland. The term ICT is now also used to refer to the convergence of audio-visual and telephone networks with computer network through a single cabling or link system Dennis Stevenson (2007) There is a lot of information communication Technology (ICT) media’s available in zenith bank, media’s such as.
There are some roles of ICT in Zenith Bank Abeokuta, Technology is longer being used simply as a means for automating processes. The adoption of Technology has led to the following benefits greater productivity, profitability and efficiency faster service and customer satisfaction convenience and flexibility 24/7 operation” and space and cost saving (J.O. Adetayo, 2005) and chief executive officer of chase manhattans, which pioneered many innovation application of ICT in banking industry observed that the internet caused a technology revolution and it could have greater impact on change than the industrial revolution. Technology has been used to offer banking services in the following ways. ATMs are the cash dispensing machine that can be seen at banks and other location where crowed proximity is more. ATMs started as a substitute to a bank to allows its customers to withdraw cash at anytime and to provide services where it would not be viable to open another physical branch. The ATM is the most visited delivery channel in retact banking with more than 40 billion transaction annually world wide. Infact the delivery channel revolution is said to have began with the ATM. It was indeed a pleasant change for customers to be in change of their transaction as no longer would they need to defend on an indifferent bank employee. ATMs have made banks realize that they could advert the hug branch traffic to the ATM., the benefits hence were mud-once banks realized the convenience of ATMs, new service started to be added. The phonemenal success of ATMs, had made the banking sector develop more innovation delivers channel to build on cast and services efficiencies as a consequence, bank have introduce the telebanking, call centres, internet banking and mobile banking. ICT has a numerous problem in the banking system. ICT have come to play a vibrant role in democratizing education not only in the developed but also in the developing countries. However, in spreading the use of ICT some major difficulties are set by the policy makers as well as the implementies. These difficulties are set at the growth and application stage of ICT. They are people, software and hardware. Different permutation and combination with regard to the three variable create different implication for the growth and application of ICT. (James C. Tayler, 2009 “Computer assisted Distance education information vol.5 no 12p.27. A pedagogic and professional development perspective”). Among these, they stated that the most difficult aspect to address would invariably be by the human element Peter Thomas and Dean Taviar, state that as access to ICT technologies become more extensive the use is external administrative aspect toward more of interaction with students. (James C. Taylor, 2009 “Computer assisted Distance education. A pedagogic and professional development perspective”) such as scenario throws up and new challenge before technology in terms of both technical and human aspects. Hidetoshukato states that in the years to come communication technology will play a vital role in deciding learning outcomes. (Keto, Hideto Shikoto) “Technology and distance education” Indian Journal open learning. The problem associated with the growth of ICTs that have been focused upon in this paper are political factors Economic Factors, Cultural Factors and Technological with application of ICTs this focused will be laid on social political factors, Human and administrative factors, Economic factors and Technical Factors. Further, the paper based on-various case studies derives comportant conclusion and also provide potent suggestion to ensure the smooth growth and effective application of ICT in the their world.
In Nigeria, customers of banks today are no longer about safety of their funds and increase return on their investment only. Customers demand efficient, fast and convenient services. Customers want a preferential treatment and full attentions by their choice bank. All these are only achievable through electronic banking.
